Rooted in Reciprocity Garden Stewardship

Ages 5–12Land & Stewardship

Each morning, we begin our day by working together to imagine, plan, create, and care for our 'Rooted in Reciprocity' Garden. In the beginning, much of this work will center on observing the space, learning about what helps an ecosystem thrive, and dreaming together about what we would like our garden to become. Children will help map ideas, choose plants, explore soil and water needs, and consider how the space can support people, pollinators, wildlife, and the wider community.

Over time, learners will move from planning into hands-on care—preparing soil, planting seeds, tending pollinator habitat, harvesting food, and restoring healthy ecosystems. Our shared goal is to create an inspiring urban homestead filled with an abundance of life, nourishment, beauty, and food for all. Along the way, children will explore ecology, mathematics, science, nutrition, art, and teamwork while developing practical skills, shared responsibility, and a lifelong relationship with the natural world.
