Discovery Den / Project Portal

The Discover Den is for science based learning and exploration at Inspire Roots in Taos, New Mexico.

A spacious, flexible room designed as the hub for deep dives, big ideas, and ambitious collaborations at Inspire Roots. The Discovery Den is equipped with movable tables, display boards, research stations with books, maps, timelines, science charts, building materials and more! The inspiring open space is perfect for multi-week or multi-disciplinary projects that blend science inquiry, social studies exploration, history, geography and community-focused investigations.

Through immersive projects, children strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving as they form hypotheses, gather evidence, analyze results, and draw connections across disciplines. They build research skills [sourcing reliable information, note-taking, citing sources], and communication skills [presenting findings, active listening]. Emotionally, the space nurtures perseverance through challenges, pride in ownership, empathy for diverse perspectives, confidence in voice and creation, and a sense of wonder about the interconnected world—turning inquiry into empowerment and knowledge into meaningful action.

Here, we will tackle meaningful, open-ended challenges in small groups: designing and testing simple machines, creating ecosystems in mini terrariums/aquariums, exploring physics, biology, and environmental science. Together we will research and create presentations on local [& global] history, geography and Indigenous cultures to build interactive timelines, dioramas, or 3D models of significant events…

The room buzzes with planning sessions, prototype building, peer feedback, revisions, and celebratory showcases— these are just a few [LOL] of the curiosity-driven big ideas we hope to see come to life when you enter the project portal!
